One of the uses of the 3D Laser Scanner is the Clash Detection between the current condition of the existing buildings and/or facilities, and the new constructions, conversions and extensions, in the design phase.
In this process, the use of 3D Laser Scanner is joined with the BIM technology.

The procedure to carry out the clash detection through the 3D Laser Scanning technology is the following:
The starting point of this process is the tridimensional scanning of the required area. This is a fieldwork consisting of the 3D Laser Scanner positioning over the studying area. As a result, a 3D digitalization of the studying area is obtained with a high accuracy (±1 mm).
PROCESSING & CREATING POINT CLOUD
After the scanning process, the scans are processed and registered through specific software.
Once all the scans are positioned, the Point Cloud is created, which reproduces through of million points, the environment captured by the laser 3D scanner.
Thanks to the BIM technology, is generated a virtual model with all the existing elements. The BIM platforms existing on the market, allow for the incorporation of the Point Cloud on the modeling software.
In this way, it’s possible model elements within the point cloud, where all the existing elements are reproduced. Consequently a precise and reliable model is obtained
